The Bounty Ball is held at the close of Bounty Day celebrations at 7pm in the Rawson Hall in the centre of town.
This year numbers were down in the Junior Old Time Waltzing competition. In the littlies section, Kindergarten, Years 1 and 2 there were six pairs; Years 3-4 had five pairs, and in Year 5-6 six pairs and only two couples in Secondary.
There are also two other major competitions: one open to the Norfolk Island locals and another open to All Comers. The main aim of the night is to continue the spirit of the day of having fun.
These ballroom dancing classes first commenced in the 1960s, down at what was known as the Prince Philip Youth Centre now the Sirius Maritime Museum. Now we have classes in the Uniting Church Hall (opposite the school), each Monday after school. The ladies who run the classes, all enjoy their voluntary work with the boys and girls, teaching them not only ballroom dancing, but also ballroom etiquette and social graces which they hope will enhance the lives of the boys and girls as they grow up.
This Years Winners were:
Kindergarten : Laura Nawiesniak & James Menzies-Spreag
Year 1/2/3: Suzie Wright and Dayne O'Hara
Year 4/5/6: Maree Evans and Brent Adams
Secondary: Jayde Evans & Wesley Cooper
