The K-6 department of NICS has approximately 191 students and 8 classroom teachers.

Staff at NICS are merit selected through the NSWDET staffing process, generally for a 3 year term.

Class configurations change each year due to numbers. Grades are staged in composite classes to maximise their opportunities for smaller class groups, individualised attention from STL and to aid in the team teaching approach in differentiating the curriculum. This approach also allows teachers to utilise their areas of expertise within their stage classes by shared programming and team teaching. In 2005, there are 8 staged groups - 2 x K/1, 2 x 1/2, 2 x 3/4 and 2 x 5/6.

Our STL/Counsellor provides assistance to students in need of additional support. We have 2 part time RFF teachers responsible for specific subject areas such as Science, PD or continuing class group activities within the framework of the individual timetables. We also have the services of a lovely local pianist who attends for 1 hour per week to play for K-2 students.

NICS is very fortunate to receive a vast amount of parent and community support in day to day programs, assisting with learning centres, home reading, sport and carnivals. Scripture lessons are held each Tuesday morning due to the support of voluntary scripture teachers from the local community.

Sport takes place each Wednesday afternoon and K-2 students take part in swimming lessons towards the end of the school year.

K-6 assemblies are held every second Friday with many parents and grandparents attending when their child's class is responsible for running the assembly.

Student achievement compares very well with other NSW schools, results usually being above state average in most areas of BST. We have access each week to a well resourced school library and technology room, sponsored by Mobil.
